Message From Our New Commissioner

Before getting into all the details I want to take a moment to introduce myself, as many of you may not know who I am.  My name is Chris Stamm and I live in the Bluegrass community with my wife, Misty, and our five children (ranging in ages 14 down to 8 months!).  Last fall I coached my daughter’s Orange team in the 5th/6th grade division.  I am an experienced coach who has coached volleyball at the elementary, middle, high, and collegiate level.  I also have coached club/travel teams.  Besides coaching, I also played collegiately in the Men’s Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) in the mid-nineties and for several years I continued to play in local recreational leagues.  Simply put, I’m a parent of a player, a coach, and a player myself…I have a passion for the sport and I love watching growth and development in young players.

Much has happened over the last month and I am sure there are likely a number of stories going around.  Let me assure everyone CBFO Volleyball is alive and well!  CBFO has built a very strong league and it has been the primary outlet for children in west Knoxville to experience recreational and developmental volleyball in league play.  That will not change.  We will continue to fill the gap between school and club teams.

I am very excited to announce that new Club Unite owners Shannon Mincey and Dirk Morris have agreed to house CBFO at Club Unite for the fall season at their facility located on Byington-Solway Road.  All practices and games will be held at Club Unite an my hope is that this will add some consistency to practice times and make it easier for our teams to get the necessary court time to develop their skills.  This arrangement will also give us superior courts and facilities and will certainly eliminate the instances we have had in the past where you might have showed up to the gym for practice and either the gym was not available or valuable practice time had to be used to set up the nets and equipment.  This is a big win for us!

Right now I am compiling all the applications to determine how to bracket the ages and gauge the interest between the A and B leagues.  At the moment it looks like we will have six weeks of games with a final week of tourney play.  I want to encourage those of you who have sons to also consider this league for them:  we would like to incorporate more boys into the mix and hopefully at some point have an all boys’ division.  My own third grade son will be playing this fall!

I have a parent meeting scheduled for next Friday evening (9/2/2016) at the Club Unite Facility from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM.  Feel free to come to this meeting with all your questions and concerns and I will be available to answer them.  If you cannot make the meeting in person I will be streaming it live so you can participate or watch it later.  Simply send a request via email to so I can add you to the closed group for viewing.  I am also tentatively scheduling a tryout/open gym day at the Club Unite facility for next Saturday, 9/4/2016, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM.  The Vols play next Thursday night, so this will be a good Saturday to have it!

Change and transition is never easy and there are nearly always some setbacks, so I want to apologize to everyone for the lack of information and communication the last few weeks.  The leadership transition had a few hurdles to jump and I came on board this past Sunday evening.  In the future you can come to this website for updates and I hope to have a Facebook group established very soon for all parents.  Feel free to reach out to me at the email address.

I look forward to the season and I hope to meet each of you personally very soon!

Chris Stamm
